Quote: "Her mind had...had...she groped for a word. Had flexed. That was not just right, but it was very close. There had been a curious mental bending, almost like an elbow curling a dumbbell. That wasn't exactly right either, but it was all she could think of. An elbow with no strength. A weak baby muscle."
Page: 28 (This is a new book I just started reading this week)
(P) It states earlier in the book (the first pages actually) that Carrie has telekinesis, or the ability to move or change things with your mind. Yet Carrie doesn't know until this event, which was making a boy who was taunting her fall off his bike while walking home from school. I believe that as the story progresses, she's going to hone that ability and make it stronger. Carrie is bullied a lot in school for being religious and naive, so from what I've read she is starting to feel tired of being ridiculed. She might try to get revenge on what her classmates have done to her or defend herself against their attacks.
Do you think that her power might backfire? I mean people know revenge isn't the answer to your problems. Do you think that something might happen to her and she might lose everything./everyone because of her power?
Oooh I've watched the movie and read the book! I think Stephen King showed a cruel way on how to deal with bullying. Obviously revenge is not the answer.
do you think her powers are fueled by her anger, or is it something that will get stronger by "exercising" it. and do you think she will hide the fact she has these powers or use them often?
"By late summer 1974, there had been no movement on my case. Ni body. No killer. Nothing."
(R): I think this is an interesting quote that tells a lot about the book. I like how the author uses repetition and punctuation to describe what the character, Susie, is feeling. What I still don't understand is how her parents doubt about every single person except the actual killer. I kept on reading and it talks about how her sister starts investigating but it can be dangerous. This makes me think of the pain that a parent can go through for their children and how they weren't really paying attention to her. I mean, why would you go in someone's house that you don't know? But sadly the parents don't even imagine that their daughter's killer, is their neighbor.
This does seem like a very interesting book, like lacey said great job! & indeed it is hard imagining the pain a parent can go through for their children, especially when their child goes missing. I like the anticipation this book creates! let me know what happens! I heard the movie is really good, you should watch it ;)
You make it sound like the parents can't really feel pain for their kids when you say they weren't paying attention to their daughter. These guys sound like some irresponsible, reckless people! But its a cool reflection, cheers~
My sister has read this book! :) I haven't, but I've seen the movie. It was a decent watch. Anyway though, yeah, it's a sad, unfortunate truth, but some murder and homicide cases go unsolved. It happens, but the most we can do? Be good citizens and actually work hard to make a difference. It's like JFK said: Ask not what the country can do for you. Rather ask what YOU can do for your country. You know why I say that? Because charity, kindness, and forgiveness should be what we stand for. I remember a Mormon Messages video I watched on YouTube that talked about a Mormon father and husband who actually got into an accident with a drunk-driver teenager. His children, his wife, all except for one of his children were tragically killed in this accident. But even afterwards, because of the faith he had in God, he forgave the driver he got into an accident with. It's just a prime example of someone trying to do the right thing. And it was the right thing. What do we accomplish by holding onto grudges or our past mistakes? NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. All we have to do is let go of our pasts, and shape our futures. If you do that, you'll be better off in life. I know that firsthand personally from experience. Anyway, that's my two-cents. Hope it helps! :D
Passages from the text: "'I still don't get it," she says. "Why get in touch with me now? It's been so long." Right then, I'm tempted. Tempted to tell her my brother seems to be haunting me. But if I want to keep her talking to me, I can't say that. So I don't. " I just had a feeling. A feeling you could use a friend." I tuck her hair back behind her ear. "And I think I was right." She looks at me like she wants to tell me something. But then she looks away, opens the door, and leaves."
Page: 86-87
Comments & Questions: (P) This part is Nico's view points, he is haunted by his ghost brother Lucca, and Lucca keep leaving messages telling Nico that he needs to help Brooklyn. He does what Lucca says, but when Brooklyn questions him, he can not tell the truth to her. Same as Brooklyn, she is haunted by her ghost friend Gabe. She wants to share these with somebody, but she knows that she can not do that. No body would believe her;people would think that she is finally crazy. These is a big conflict for both of the two characters. Telling the truth or hiding the truth? I think they will begin to open to each other until they learn to let each other in, and they will encourage each other to able to deal with the problem.
Sounds like a very interesting book. Just like in my book, from the quote I can say that the character has a inner conflict with himself. I hope that Lucca finds out that telling the truth is always, well almost most of the times, better to tell the truth than to lie. But in this case it seems like the character is having trouble debating whether to tell the truth or not because it seems he doesn't want to loose the trust of the other character, but who knows, tell me what happens! :)
I totally knew that there was gonna be a ghost involved, just as i predicted. Anyways, you did a good job analyzing the quote. and that big conflict of the truth will either bring them together or tear them apart, so tell me what happens, later on.
passage from the text: "Do I really need to tell you?Is hearing it from my lips the only way that you can believe what your instincts are telling you about what I am?'" I'am a vampire,Trey. A night-stalker. Undead. A nether-creature."
Response: (CL) In my last blog I asked some questions which were how did this mysterious person Lucien physically propel Trey out of the doors, and what kind of information does he know about Trey? Now that I have read some more of the book my questions can be answered. The reason Lucien was able to propel Trey is because he is a vampire. He says he is there to help Trey, and that he knew of his parents that died. He says he know a lot more about Trey, but wants to wait to tell Trey when the time is right.
I love vampire movies, and sounds like this book is about super naturals. Now I know that Trey has a vampire friend; he is also not a normal person. Is he a vampire like his friend or a werewolf boy?? An important lesson I learn from this quote is that trust is not something you win, it's something you build.
Ooh vampires!! me likey. And lots and lots of secrets to be uncovered. This is going to be epic. Good quote and good job analyzing it. I am guessing that this secret will either destroy Trey or help him, take a pick.
Page 344: " Karena has never been so happy to see a storm. "Hey Charles," she calls. "Hey what," Charles says. "You want to chase this thing or what?"
This is Karena finally talking and seeing her brother after years, and it shows how she is having this conversation with him as if they have been together for the past years. Making it seem that Karena really cannot believe that her brother is back in her life, and starting it with a joke, as if they have missed nothing at all. Shows how strong of a character Karena is. Holding up so strong as being brave, instead of breaking down and crying, I mean its been years since shes seen or even talked to her brother. And with this humor using what he loves to do (chase storms) she wants to have that relationship with him.
So before this they hadn't really had the best relationship, and hadn't been having any real conversations? It's interesting that something like stormchasing could be what brings two siblings closer together after so long.
'Emma' by: Jane Austen Quote: "Mr. Elton must now be left to himself. It was no longer in Emma's power to superintend or quicken his measures." pg. 88 Comments: Emma is trying to set up her friend-Harriet-with a handsome young gentleman-Mr. Elton. I understand that Emma can help, but everything isn't controlled by what she thinks and does, I mean Mr. Elton, should know how to confront a young lady, why should he need help with how and when to speak to his beloved Harriet?
Jane Austen was a really open minded lady; she kept her mind of value on marriage. She did not marry anyone instead of following crowd to marry a person who did not have any feeling with her. Her view influenced her literary forms. I like the way she wrote, now I really want to read this book.
Emma messed up on the arrangement, didn't she? Emma seems to be a know it all I'm guessing, she doesn't even know what she wants for herself. You did a good job analyzing the marital issues and values in this book Bridges. Keep up the good work.
Quote: "While the stereo played bits of lovely Bach I closed me glazzies (eyes) and viddied (saw) myself helping in and even taking charge of the tolchocking and the nailing in, being dressed in a like toga that was the heighth of Roman fashion. So being in Staja 84F was not all that wasted, and the Governor himself was very pleased to hear that I had taken to like Religion, and that was where I had my hopes."
(Q) Alex's interest in religion in this manner suggests he is definitely not ready to be released from prison. Although the effort to have religion "save" Alex seems to be working, he still has his mind set on lawbreaking and actions that would normally go against one's morals. It makes me wonder if Alex will ever our grow this criminal behavior? Or will his actions and thoughts lead him down a darker path of self destruction than he has already caused himself?
Would you portray yourself as the character in this story? Coincidentally having a similarity with your name, but nevertheless Great Questions to your Quote!
I've already read the book and I really like your interpretation of his feelings about religion. It's obvious that Alex's mind set isn't normal about religion and wanting to take part in hitting and violence. But then again, that's why he's in prison right, because he enjoys it. Maybe his view on religion is that he's interested in it only in order to be seen as "reformed" and be released?
Quote: "I nod in the darkness. My eyes have adjusted so I can see that the garden is pretty big, an expanse of grass bisected by brick paths and ringed by flower beds. Every now and then, a tiny light flashes in the air." pg.-84
I really like how the author uses his sense of diction to portray the scene so the reader can imagine it in their head. I honestly love it when authors do this because rather than make the reader just be someone that is reading, it makes the reader feel like their part of the story. As to the context of the quote, I believe that the author is creating more of a light-hearted environment compared to the previous chapters in the book, which in my opinion is anticipating some optimistic turn of events.
I think this quote is really interesting and I really like how you talk about the author. This sounds like an interesting book! I think I read something similar to it... Tell me what happens at the end! Sounds like a great story :)
Sherlock Holmes: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Pg. 48
"The swing of his nature took him from extreme languor to devouring energy; and as I knew well, he was never so truly formidable as when, for days on end, he had been lounging in his armchair amid his improvisations sand his black-letter editions."
My reaction towards this is simply how phenomenal Holmes can put several chains together of someone so close to him to why they react the way they do. The choice of word, "languor", which is the state or feeling, often pleasant, of tiredness. The usage of several commas emphasizes his thought process, showing us what he can truly be capable of. Oh Holmes... you've confused me once more with your great words/sentences.
Yeah, it is interesting. You think about it, anyone can do it. Just take all the facts and piece them together, look at it objectively, and you'll get somewhere...if you worked hard enough. They say a wise man learns from his own experiences. An even wiser man learns from someone else's. You ask me, that's what these books can do for us. Help us gain multiple perspectives, multiple experiences, and learn from a variety of sources....that's what I get from this, anyway.
Holmes reminds me of my father, my father tends to do the same thing he can read a person within minutes of meeting them and he can answer why the person is the way they are. This makes Holmes a much more interesting man and makes you really get to thinking and making you look deeper into the book and how you read the book.
“'Read me something,' he said as the goddamned ambulance roared right past us. So while I waited for them to turn around and find us, I recited the only poem I could bring to mind, “The Red Wheelbarrow” by William Carlos Williams.
so much depends upon
a red wheel barrow
glazed with rain water
besides the white chickens.
Williams was a doctor. It seemed to me like a doctor’s poem.”
- Pg.246
Augustus has a close encounter with death while trying to do something as simple as purchase cigarettes at a gas station. Because of this, he feels completely useless and disgusted with himself and wishes he would just die. In the novel, he explains that he wants people to remember him after he dies; he wants to do something big and be Great. The poem is about noticing stuff that you usually wouldn’t care about and realizing how much it matters. Since the ambulance passed them and the poem is a “doctor’s poem”, I feel that it’s Augustus’ “last treatment”, in the sense that, even though he might not of had the chance to be Great for the whole world, he’s still great to his family and friends and especially to Hazel.
Your comment toward the quote reminded me of the saying " you don't know what you have until you loose it", and it is true. Sometimes you don't cherish the people around you, or even the things that you have until something happens that makes you realize how really important it is.
"Your comment toward the quote reminded me of the saying " you don't know what you have until you loose it", and it is true. Sometimes you don't cherish the people around you, or even the things that you have until something happens that makes you realize how really important it is."
i agree totaly with lauras quote i was asking my parent for a car and she told me a story... their once was a spoiled teenager who had a rich father. his father got him anything he wanted. one day the teenager asked for a really expensive car. a few weeks later his dad gave him a bible and the teenager threw it in his face, yelled at him, left to college and didnt speak to his dad for a month. his dad died of a broken heart and his spoiled son was going through his dads stuff. he found the bible that his dad gave him and inside was a car title to the car the son wanted.
this story touched my heart... and this is why you should appreciate what you get because not everything is what it appears to be... -AGT
"Then I was in a hospital. There were machines plugged into me, beeping quietly. I couldn't open my eyes, but i was awake. People visited: Anna and Ben, people from school. Dad sat beside me like he used to smell when I was little." pg.74
While reading this book, the author decided to put something I would like to think tis a flashback of her childhood. Then again I'm not sure if this is something that did happen when she was little or if this is just a dream. I'm just a bit confuse, because i'm not sure what the purpose of this is. Maybe she just misses her family, and this is a way of feeling like she is back home.
Why do you think the author would want to flashback to an event like this? don't you think a flashback can lead to helping the reader wonder about the future?
I believe it is a flashback since she said just like he used to when she was little. i Guess she is missing her family and that she is glad to be back with them.
Maybe she does miss her family and how things used to be. I feel like every time I miss someone or something I start to think about all the moments we spent. Bad and good ones. The way she says it makes it sound real and depressing.
Trash pg 45 "We jumped early because you never wanna be seen getting off the train. If guards or even porters see you, you can get a real thrashing."
R: The Author might be setting up a foreshadow on how they might get caught in the near future. Before this quote he does mention that they are in "their" territory so they should not get caught, but now he is describing the security and gaurding system.
Look for me by moonlight- Mary Downing Hahn "' This circle is you," he said. Flourishing the other three, still joined, he added,"Jeff, Susan, and Todd." Deftly he detached Dad's circle and joined it to mine. "How you'd like it to be." In a flash he reunited Dad with Susan and Todd, leaving me unattached. "How it is."...We both stared silently at the circle lying on the table. Alone, unattached, easily forgotten. He crossed the room and sat on the couch beside me. "Believe me, Cynda, I understand . I know how hard it is to be an outsider, alone and unhappy, misunderstood." pg 69-70
Response: If I were Cynda at this point I would be also getting closer to this mysterious man who seems to know everything she is feeling at the moment with both of her parents and her "annoying" little stepbrother. Vincent is the only one who can understand her, so she is going to start trusting him, which is totally understandable because she has daddy issues that makes her sad, it also worries me that he is trying to manipulate her by being there with her when she needs someone to talk to. Vincent is trying to manipulate Cynda and make her trust him so that he can get whatever it is he wants from her. My advice to me if I was in that situation would be to run as far as my little legs can carry me OR stay and have some tea and get closer to this handsome mysterious man same advice goes to Cynda.
If were you in that situation I suggest you to run as far as your little legs can carry you. Don't be so close to somebody who is trying to gain some benefits from you.
I really like this quote, but if I were I would try to find some way to connect with my family member's because family is all you got. And if I were her I would have nothing to do with this Vincent man.
Ranger's Apprentice: Erak's Ransom "Svengal lay groaning on the turf. His thighs were sheer agony. His buttocks ached. His calf muscles were on fire. Now, after he had tumbled off the small pony he was riding and thudded heavily to the turf on the point of his shoulder, the shoulder would hurt too. He concentrated on trying to find one part of his body that wasn't a giant source of pain and failed miserably. He opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was the face of the elderly pony that he had been riding as it peered down at him. Now what made you do a strange thing like that? the creature seemed to be asking." pg. 70
(Q) When you first ride a horse, do you really experience this much pain from riding it for long periods of time? and is it common to fall off often when you first learn how? I've only ridden a horse for a max of 10 minutes so I wouldn't know what its like past that.
The first time I rode a horse for an extended amount of time was only my second time riding a horse. However, I only rode for an hour or two, this guy had fallen off his horse and had probably been riding for a lot longer. From having ridden for several hours and falling off, I would guess anyone would have that much pain on their first ride.
This character seems very determined to ride this if it gets to the point were he is falling of in pain, so why are they doing it what is te character accomplishing by doing this tho themselves.
"The Hard Way: A Jack Reacher Novel" By Lee Child Pg 59 (Lane) "You're one of them, aren't you?" Silence in the room. "Two questions," Reacher said. "Why would I have gone to the coffee shop the second night?..." "Because you wanted to worm your way inside where you could steer us wrong...And you were there, like a spider waiting for a fly."
(E) It appears as though Mr Lane, our unlucky victim, the man who has had his family kidnapped and ransomed for $1 million...before the kidnapper(s) raised the price to $5 million...after Reacher predicted it. He's so analytically-inclined that he can tell enemy's next move before it even happens...unfortunately, our desperate victim Lane is just that: desperate. He's pointing fingers and suspects Reacher of aiding the enemy. You ask me, we'll see more tension between these two later on in the novel. And it will be more heated and intense.
"Kale gave one last look at the place she thought she'd seen something and followed Dar. After only a few minutes, she felt the little hairs on the back of her neck rise." page 69 (Q) Why is it that Kale is the only one who feels like they are being watched? The other two members of the group are trained warriors, and one of them is a mindreader, so why can't they sense this presence?
“Some things can't be changed. They'll always happen the way they were supposed to.”
I really like this quote from the book because i live by this quote somethings are meant to happen while others aren't for example some doors may be locked for some people because they might not be able to handle whats behind it or they wont be interested in something so the door remains locked until a better option is available. Also when someone leaves you like you lose your best friend you guys don't talk anymore that means there was a reason behind it everything has a reason it just takes time to uncover the reason you lose someone or the reason you cant change something.
I really like how you related the quote to yourself. I agree strongly with that quote and strongly agree with your explanation because some things honestly will never change.
Your reflection on this quote is very thorough and It is defiantly one of the best ones i have seen so far. BUT you you only look at the negatives. Try to incorporate some positive.
"The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston "At this point, Nancy Jaax was essentially washed up. She couldn't proceed with any kind of work with Level 3 agents, because she couldn't tolerate the vaccinations. There was only one way she could continue working with dangerous infectious agents. She had to get assigned to work in a space suit in Level 4 areas. There aren't any vaccines for Level 4 hot agents. A Level 4 hot agent is a lethal virus for which there is no vaccine and no cure."
I thought is was very interesting, and rather amusing, that because she couldn't handle getting vaccinated for the other diseases, the only option is to work with much more dangerous ones. If something bad happens, which I currently believe will, there is nothing anyone can do for her.
That's a very interesting situation. You would think one would rather gets vaccinated than deal with diseases that could kill her since there are no other cures to the Level 4 viruses.
I want to know why Nacy Jaax hates vaccinations so much, why she feels that working with incurable viruses is a better idea then just getting vaccinated
"In the center of the table is a platter of food I don't recognize: circular pieces of meat wedged between round bread slices. I pinch one between my fingers, unsure what to make of it."
Page 65
(E) Of course, she wouldn't know what a hamburger is since she came from Abnegation and transferred to Dauntless. It was the morals of Abnegation to not be self-indulgent because it is unnecessary. If it were me transferring to this faction, from my own faction, I would be just as curious what this food is since I would have never have had it before.
Sarah Dessen: Along for the ride “Yeah. I mean, acknowledging is easy. Something happened or it didn't. But understanding... that's where things get sticky.”
I think going through something due to a situation that you have no control of is probably one of the worst feelings in the world. Why did it happen? What did you do? What's wrong with you? There's just some sort of emptiness to everything. You feel useless and worthless. And most importantly you wonder how you're going to go through this and over it.
acknowledging and understanding are two different things that are often misconceived. The narrator does a good job in pointing that out. What's the situation that this character is going through?
Passage From The Text "She's only glad you're alive because of what you can do for her. She doesn't care about you." Evidently, Skinny survived the surgery, too."
Pg.90
Comments & Questions (P) Since skinny 'survived' the surgery, I think Eve is going to let her ruin her plans, and not succeed with her diet, with her negative commentary. Skinny is Eve's subconscious, she just doesn't realize this and she even named her.
Cou;d she have multiple personalities??Because she aknowledges her as another person and gives her("subconscious") a name. What surgery does skinny 'survive'?? Why is Eve letting skinny ruin her plans, and fail at her diet???
Kill Switch Chris Lynch Pg.22 "Winners and losers-and there is no mistaking which is which here-begin making their way down the sunny concrete steps, toward the collection windows, the betting windows, the bars, and the bathrooms, all loading up to shoot the same shots again on the next race and then the next one." Comment This is very a detailed description of the race track betting area. Everybody is exited to go cash in and bet on the next race. What I think is weird is that a grandfather would take his grandson into a race track and smuggle in beer for him.
Page 28-- “Picture that moment when your mom or dad first saw you as something other than a pretty, tiny version of them. You as them, but improved. Better educated. Innocent. Than picture when you stopped being their dream”
This quote is talking about Rant Casey, the subject of the book and his parents and so far because of this quote and many others before it, much worse than this, even though its still early in the book it paints this mystery character as a crappy guy and i can’t wait till the story starts to reveal why people feel this way.
"A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini (page 43) Quote- "They sat across from her, Jalil and his wives, at a long, dark brown table. Between them, in the center of the table, was a crystal vase of fresh marigolds and a sweating pitcher of water. The red-haired woman who had introduced herself as Niloufar's mother, Afsoon, was sitting on Jalil's right. The other two, Khadija and Nargis, were on his left. The wives each had on a flimsy black scarf, which they wore not on their heads but tied loosely around the neck like an afterthought."
(C) I thought this passage in the story was interesting because of the religious reference that it made. Since the story is taking place in Afghanistan and the characters are Muslim, it is okay for a man to have more than one wife. Also, the author was very detailed in describing the scene, by talking about who sat where and the way the room looked to help the reader create an image in their mind.
The author presents some amazing imagery. So descriptive! What do you think he means by "afterthought"? It is interesting that the women would wear their scarves around their necks like it is culture to them rather than to cover their hair as a Muslim women would. Then again, we do see this happen in modern day society.
The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald "I decided to call to him. Miss Baker had mentioned him at dinner, and that would do for an introduction. But I didn’t call to him, for he gave a sudden intimation that he was content to be alone — he stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and, far as I was from him, I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward — and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock. When I looked once more for Gatsby he had vanished, and I was alone again in the unquiet darkness." Such a mysterious way to introduce Mr. Gatsby. It builds suspense to a character that can be easily inferred to being important in the story as the plot progresses. Now, being the reader and the audience, I want to inquire more information about him, and I want to keep reading.
"The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. Page (42) Passage- "In it, I read that my people, the Pashtuns, had persecuted and oppressed the Hazaras. It said the Hazaras had tried to rise against the Pashtuns in the nineteenth century, but the Pashtuns had "quelled them with unspeakable violence." The book said that my people had killed the Hazaras, driven them from their lands, burned their homes, and sold their women."
(C) This passage recounts historical events. Throughout the book, Hassan has been picked on because he is a Hazara. They kept mentioning this term over and over again and I didn't understand what it meant. This explanation clarified a lot of things for me,
She had went out. god knows i had not wanted to fall in love with her. i had not wanted to fall in love with anyone. but god knows i had and i lay on the bed in the room of the hospital in milan and all sorts of things went through my head but i felt wonderful and finally Miss George came in. at this point henry has reflected on how he feels about miss barkely and his feelings towards her. It is a bit odd because of the fact that he is a man of duty who is very unlikely to confess his true feelings in front of different people. Henry is also unwilling to believe in his true feelings for miss barkely and when he thinks about these feelings he prefers not to(shown in the quote.) He made it seemed as though someone elses’ presence had saved him from thinking about such a complicated subject; his feelings for catherine.
"When you can't save yourself or your heart, it helps to be able to save your face." PG.141
Reply: I agree with the quote because a lot of people go through a lot of pain and sometimes it's not easy to share it with people. When you're going around living your life in the world you have to put up your strong face so that people will think your strong. Everybody does it, even the character in the book.
(R) She keeps seeing these images of the accident, which is far too familiar to her. She is repeatedly pulled into trances, where she keeps seeing the accident.
"Something like fate" by: Susane Colasanti (E) "It's not worth the effort to put so much energy into building a friendship with someone if you're just gonna drift apart anyway."
Pg. 22
I really like the way she puts this like saying that it's not good to tell your friends "oh we're always gonna be there for each other" or "oh we will always be friends" because if ya'll don't end up in an argument somehow ya'll will go to college and rift away unless ya'll go to the same college and keep in touch like she says ya'll will get separated either way.
She could also mean that.....maybe what she's trying to say that it's not worth building a relationship with someone so destructive and cynical. Maybe it's not worth wasting your time trying to fix the unfixable, help someone who won't accept to change or accept help, someone who has hurt youin the past who has now become distrustful.
(Pg.68) "Something bigger drew my worry: the creeping cold in my own famished heart, emptiness expanding. Some days I was only sad, others I straddled depression. But I was definetly not afraid." (Connection): The anxiety of never being enough, never knowing whether or not you're ever going to wake up one day and feel the way you did. That anxiety still lives, but I' am afraid that I will stay this way forever.
"I took crime as if born for it. I was a natural, learning quickly, acting instinctively.I paid attention when theo spoke and remembered everything he said. He taught me how to deal with employees, customers (we never spoke of victims, they were always clients or customers) and rival gangs.
(E)This showed me that he is going to become a really violent person in the future. This shows that he really enjoys harming others and looks up to Theo as a role model.
pg. 179 "I wished so badly that she could see my flickering body and understand this wasn't a joke. That I was dead, really and truly. It was one thing when she rolled her eyes at my life and wrinkled her nose at my boyfriend, but I didn't want her to think that I was the type of person who would use her long-lost sister that way. I didn't want to be that kind of person."
I like this quote a lot. It's like showing a more deep picture of how Sutton feels inside. You can tell she really doesn't want to be perceived as a bad person. Even though her "long-lost sister" does anger her with her actions, she doesn't disrespect her. It shows an insight on their relationship as well.
"True" and i also understood it as that when God made us whatever he has written us to go through in life will to happen, and is something that can not changed.
(R) : This novel treats the heated issue of race, and its really sad how she goes through all the hard decisions she makes. The plot is basically between whites and blacks in which the black person is treated dirty . As its goes on it shows that Rosaleen is sent to jail for defending herself and Zach goes to jail for not admitting which of his friends broke a bottle on a white man’s nose. And Lily for living with the black women, who treat her better than anyone else ever has. Thats when August gets jealous.Lily goes through what it is like to be judged based solely on her skin color when June complains to August that she does not want Lily in the house because she is white.
Carrie by Stephen King
ReplyDeleteQuote: "Her mind had...had...she groped for a word.
Is there any correlation between her powers and her devotion to religion?
DeleteDo you know exactly where the powers come from yet?
Do you think that her power might backfire? I mean people know revenge isn't the answer to your problems. Do you think that something might happen to her and she might lose everything./everyone because of her power?
DeleteOooh I've watched the movie and read the book! I think Stephen King showed a cruel way on how to deal with bullying. Obviously revenge is not the answer.
Deletedo you think her powers are fueled by her anger, or is it something that will get stronger by "exercising" it. and do you think she will hide the fact she has these powers or use them often?

Annie, great job with your comment! :)
DeleteYou did a good job saying what you thought about the book.
This does seem like a very interesting book, like lacey said great job! & indeed it is hard imagining the pain a parent can go through for their children, especially when their child goes missing. I like the anticipation this book creates! let me know what happens! I heard the movie is really good, you should watch it ;)
DeleteYou make it sound like the parents can't really feel pain for their kids when you say they weren't paying attention to their daughter.
DeleteThese guys sound like some irresponsible, reckless people!

DeleteI totally knew that there was gonna be a ghost involved, just as i predicted. Anyways, you did a good job analyzing the quote. and that big conflict of the truth will either bring them together or tear them apart, so tell me what happens, later on.

ReplyDeleteResponse: (CL) In my last blog I asked some questions which were how did this mysterious person Lucien physically propel Trey out of the doors, and what kind of information does he know about Trey? Now that I have read some more of the book my questions can be answered. The reason Lucien was able to propel Trey is because he is a vampire. He says he is there to help Trey, and that he knew of his parents that died. He says he know a lot more about Trey, but wants to wait to tell Trey when the time is right.
Sounds like a book with secrets. How interesting. Let me know what happens :)
DeleteI love vampire movies, and sounds like this book is about super naturals. Now I know that Trey has a vampire friend; he is also not a normal person. Is he a vampire like his friend or a werewolf boy?? An important lesson I learn from this quote is that trust is not something you win, it's something you build.
DeleteOoh vampires!! me likey. And lots and lots of secrets to be uncovered. This is going to be epic. Good quote and good job analyzing it. I am guessing that this secret will either destroy Trey or help him, take a pick.

DeleteI've already read the book and I really like your interpretation of his feelings about religion. It's obvious that Alex's mind set isn't normal about religion and wanting to take part in hitting and violence. But then again, that's why he's in prison right, because he enjoys it. Maybe his view on religion is that he's interested in it only in order to be seen as "reformed" and be released?

I really like how the author uses his sense of diction to portray the scene so the reader can imagine it in their head. I honestly love it when authors do this because rather than make the reader just be someone that is reading, it makes the reader feel like their part of the story. As to the context of the quote, I believe that the author is creating more of a light-hearted environment compared to the previous chapters in the book, which in my opinion is anticipating some optimistic turn of events.

I find it interesting how Holmes manages to analyze everything that is around him. In this case the person which he is talking about.
DeleteYeah, it is interesting.
DeleteHolmes reminds me of my father, my father tends to do the same thing he can read a person within minutes of meeting them and he can answer why the person is the way they are. This makes Holmes a much more interesting man and makes you really get to thinking and making you look deeper into the book and how you read the book.

Vincent is the only one who can understand her, so she is going to start trusting him, which is totally understandable because she has daddy issues that makes her sad, it also worries me that he is trying to manipulate her by being there with her when she needs someone to talk to. Vincent is trying to manipulate Cynda and make her trust him so that he can get whatever it is he wants from her. My advice to me if I was in that situation would be to run as far as my little legs can carry me OR stay and have some tea and get closer to this handsome mysterious man same advice goes to Cynda.

Reply: I agree with the quote because a lot of people go through a lot of pain and sometimes it's not easy to share it with people. When you're going around living your life in the world you have to put up your strong face so that people will think your strong. Everybody does it, even the character in the book.
This is very true. Many people are enduring a lot of pain but don't know how to control themselves ("put on heir strong face").
Deletevery true, like they say "I keep a smile on my face but you don't know the pain I feel inside"

Alexa sprung to her feet, flushed by a sudden inspiration. Travel buddies. Of course! Holly was the answer.
Using someone that you use to be friends with is really wrong and it makes you look like a user.
Wow that really gave me chills.
ReplyDeletei can totally relate to this

(R) She keeps seeing these images of the accident, which is far too familiar to her. She is repeatedly pulled into trances, where she keeps seeing the accident.
I like the fact that the author uses a great word to describe what the lights are doing to her eyes. It is definitely a great quote!

ReplyDelete(E) "It's not worth the effort to put so much energy into building a friendship with someone if you're just gonna drift apart anyway."
Pg.

"Something bigger drew my worry:
the creeping cold in my own
famished heart, emptiness expanding.
Some days I was only sad,
others I straddled depression.
But I was definetly not afraid."
(Connection): The anxiety of never being enough, never knowing whether or not you're ever going to wake up one day and feel the way you did. That anxiety still lives, but I' am afraid that I will stay this way forever.

That's all me except the obnoxious part because we all know I am amazing.

ReplyDelete"I took crime as if born for it.
I think he views him more as a role-model? Because that character would pay attention to every single detail that Theo says.

"I wished so badly that she could see my flickering body and understand this wasn't a joke.

ReplyDelete“But she’s white, August.”
